シェルター
　36・×28・の大判の本だ。シェルターとは，「身近な材料を使って手作りした簡素な家のこと」と定義している。

　簡易なドーム型住宅など，数種類のシェルターの作り方や，著者が世界中を旅して見聞きしたアフリカ，ヨーロッパ，日本などの各民族の伝統的な建物の作り方を紹介する。ドームハウスを販売している人，建築廃材を拾って生計を立てている人，見捨てられた住宅を買い取ってリフォームし，転売した人など，それぞれの方法で建築とかかわっている人の談話もちりばめられている。

　この本は，1973年にアメリカで出版された。時代背景もあってか，随所にヒッピー文化の影響が見られる。　

　文字は細かく，使用された写真は1000点に上り，ほかにも多数の図版を使っている。文字は小さめでレイアウトはこみ入っており，教科書的な整理された本を読み慣れた人は困惑するかもしれない。本づくりについても手作り感覚だ。この翻訳版でも，サイズやレイアウトについては，原著をほぼ忠実に再現している。
